Eco-Friendly Tips Will Reduce Your Car’s Environmental Impact
High-tech electric and hybrid vehicles are all the rage right now. But you don't need to shell out big bucks for a new "eco" car if you give your own driving habits an environmental tune-up:
Learn how to drive as efficiently as possible. Take note of these gas-saving tips and driving techniques and you'll visit the pump less often. Plus, you'll save $20-$50 a month on gasoline (photo credit).
- Recycle your car once it has reached the end of its life. Don't send your vehicle to the junkyard before you've looked at this list.
- Carpool and use mass transit as much as possible. When you share the ride, you reduce your costs - and your impact on the air your breathe and the water you drink.
- Use a car-sharing service such as Zipcar, which may eliminate the need to own a vehicle altogether. It has certainly helped me!
- Walk, bicycle. Well, these are more "non" driving tips, aren't they? But they do help you guzzle less gas; and manufacturing a bike or a pair of walking shoes uses far less resources than producing a car!
- And remember: if you are in the market for a new car, choose the most fuel-efficient vehicle in the size that will meet your needs. Visit FuelEconomy.gov to find the best available option for you.
Our driving habits can make our trip an Eco friendly trip. One way to Drive Green is to plan and consolidate our trips. This will enable us to bypass congested routes, and lead to less idling, fewer start-ups and less stop-and-go traffic. Whenever feasible, we should share a ride, carpool and use the most fuel efficient car possible.

Thanks for sharing this article, its been a really fun read. I haven't heard much about auto recyclers. I did hear that you don't want a car that has been fixed from this point. Also that you can make money off of it and that's really exciting. I would love to send in old cars and get money from them. Thanks again for sharing!

We seem to be throwing a blind eye to the fact that when vehicles are plugged in, they are plugged into COAL in most cases. This is the dirtiest emitter of CO2 and a step backwards from gasoline. It shouldn't be about saving pennies at the pump. The hidden disaster is coal!

If you are a frequent driver then I would advise an eco-friendly car. Particularly if you drive in and around the city. Thanks for the post.

Driving a fuel-efficient vehicle can be one way to reduce fuel consumption and emissions, how you drive can be just as important as what you drive. Idling your engine generates more pollution than driving, and it wastes fuel. Thanks for the wonderful eco- friendly tips!

Great comments, all. Yes, a plug-in is often powered by a coal-fired source, and we need to keep that in mind as we consider ways to reduce our dependence on oil.
