Why My Purse is Green

Because I believe…

  • the fastest, most effective way to stop polluters is by pressuring them in the marketplace
  • women can be the world’s most powerful economic and environmental force if we intentionally shift our spending to the best green products and services
  • women have the power right now to solve many of our most serious environmental problems by using our green purses to make a difference
  • women must act – intentionally, collectively, and with the full force of our purse power behind us – if we hope to leave our children and grandchildren a better world.

Looking for New, Non-toxic Lotions, Cremes & Cleansers? Try the January EcoCentric Mom Box.

IMG_2365 This month's EcoCentric Mom box is chock full of exactly what I need in dry winter months: soothing organic skin lotions and cremes to moisturize my hands and face, gentle soaps, and cleansers and laundry "berry drops" that put the "clean" back in cleaning.

    But first, the food.

I've said before that, as much as I enjoy the new non-toxic products from EcoCentric Mom that I get to try every month, I particularly like sampling the different taste treats that come in each box. This month, those treats included:

Simply 7 Snacks Lentil Chips - These flavorful snacks are made with gluten-free, non-GMO ingredients, have no preservatives, and contain nothing artificial.

Pure Matters Pea Protein Powder, in Chocolate and Vanilla - The vegan, non-GMO, plant based protein powder can be mixed with water or milk for a shake, or added to yogurt or fruit to make a smoothie.

PROBAR Meal Bar - A lot of energy bars disappoint - they seem too sweet, too airy, and way too full of processed ingredients. The PROBAR Meal Bar was surprisingly the opposite: very dense and chewy, tasty without being cloying, and so "natural" you could see some of the raw ingredients with every bite. I've got to say, I really liked it.

    For my dry skin...

ZENTS Ultra-hydrating lotions and sensuous scents - I loved the shea butter cream lotion infused with cucumber and linden; my skin seemed to absorb it immediately, leaving no greasy residue on my hands.  Three different sample fragrances were included as well, all mild enough to be tolerated by my chemically-sensitive nose but yet refreshing enough to pick me up a bit. The liquid shower and hand wash smells lightly of vanilla as it lathers.

Celtic Complexion Creme - Celtic Complexion actually makes an entire line of hand-blended skin care products that are free of toxic chemicals, fragrances, dyes and parabens. They moisturize deeply and feel like they're going to work immediately.

JAMU Coconilla Massage Oil - I actually like working this oil into my skin after a shower or bath, whether I'm getting a massage or no. The ingredients are certified organic and the product is made in the USA. If you regularly get professional massages, you might want to take a bottle of this oil with you next time and introduce it to your masseuse.

The Seaweed Bath Co. Lavender Powder Bath - The paraben-, sulfate- and dye-free powder was developed by someone who suffered from psoriasis to help him reduce his own suffereing from severely dry and irritated skin.

Purple Prairie Botanicals Tea Tree Bar Soap - Purple Prairie claims their soap helps treat and heal acne, sores and rashes - "bacne," too. I like how it smells!

Once you're clean, how about your house?

Shaklee Basic H2O Organic Super Cleaning Concentrate - I've been eager to try this product ever since I heard about. It's a super concentrated compound you mix with water to clean most surfaces in your home. In addition to helping you keep your home spic and span, it will cut down on the amount of plastic you use, since you can mix the concentrate yourself in a reusable bottle.

Berryplus Laundry Soap - Berryplus derives its name from soap berries, an actual berry that contains compounds that help break up dirt and grime. The liquid laundry detergent also contains water, salt, organic vegetable glycerin, and a tiny bit of potassium sorbate. Because it's water-based and free of allergens, fragrance and irritants, it's generally safe for all of us babies, no matter how old we are. Plus, it's super-concentrated; only 1/2 tsp, or 2 mls of soap, will clean a whole load of laundry. Kudos to another product that helps us reduce the amount of plastic we use.

As with all the surprises that come in the monthly EcoCentric Mom Box, you also get discount codes to use if you decide to purchase more of the products.

And here's an added bonus: a tips card included welcome cold-weather exercise ideas from Alysa Bajenaru, a dietitian and personal trainer, as well as some simple-to-follow suggestions for reducing toxins in your home from Kathy Scoleri, aka Safe Mama.
